Events of the year 2010
Omgaan met 20e eeuwse architectuur: gevelbekleding: IRPA/KIK, the Vlaams Instituut voor het Onroerend Erfgoed (VIOE) and the Wetenschappelijk en Technisch Centrum voor het Bouwbedrijf (WTCB) organise a study day on facade coverings on 19th-century architecture. The syllabus is available (pdf). The Spanish city of Valladolid is in full preparation for the 7th AR&PA fair on the restoration and management of cultural heritage. For the second time IRPA/KIK takes part in this great manifestation, in the framework of a collaboration protocol signed on May 6th 2008 with the Department for Culture and Tourism of the Regional Government of Castile-Léon. The Escuela de Conservación y Restauración de Occidente (ECRO), the conservation-restoration school of Guadalajara in Mexico, is hosting a conference to celebrate its ten year anniversary.

Dans le cadre de la présidence belge de l'Union européenne, la Fondation Ateliers d'Artistes Sans Frontières organise une exposition autour de Rodin. Dans la salle des Pas perdus de l'ancienne gare du Luxembourg, à proximité du Parlement européen, les bas-reliefs qui ont servi de modèles pour la réalisation des frises de la Bourse de Bruxelles seront exposés. Ils viennent de faire l'objet d'un traitement de conservation-restauration dans l'atelier de sculptures en pierre de l'IRPA.

May 28 2010 - Study day on stone heritage
IRPA/KIK is hosting a study day on repair mortar and artificial stone for the restoration of monuments. All communications will be in Dutch.
May 8-October 3 - Exhibition of tapestries
IRPA/KIK has completed the conservation treatment of eight tapestries from the collection of the Museu de Lleida (Spain). After nearly ten years of painstaking work, these sixteenth-century Brussels masterpieces are ready to leave their city of origin again. From May 8 until October 3 2010 they will be shown in the exhibition Els tapissos de la Seu Vella in Lleida cathedral.
April 25 2010 - Open Day at IRPA/KIK
On the occasion of the ‘Erfgoeddag' (cultural heritage day) 2010 ‘Fake?', the Davidsfonds and the Royal Institute for Cultural Heritage are hosting a unique event on the theme of counterfeit art.
March 2010 - The restoration of a Manet
Edouard Manet's painting Chez le père Lathuille from 1879 recently underwent conservation-restoration treatment at IRPA/KIK.
March 2010 - Publication of Bulletin IRPA/KIK 32
IRPA/KIK is pleased to announce the publication of issue 32 of its Bulletin. The broad range of articles are a selection of studies and restoration treatments carried out by the Institute between 2006 and 2008, as well as articles on art history and restoration. March 26 2010 - Waterwerende behandelingen
IRPA/KIK and the Belgian Building Research Institute (BBRI) are organising a study day on water repellent treatments for monuments. Our survey of the evolution of hydrophobe agents and their long-term properties, resulting from a decennia-long cooperation between both institutes, assumes an objective approach towards this controversial subject. The invitation of speakers from both the public and the commercial sector as well as from the academic world, should serve the goal of stimulating a constructive dialogue between the different actors.
February 10-12 2010 - Tree rings, art and archaeology: inscriptions opened
The Royal Institute for Cultural Heritage (IRPA/KIK), with the collaboration of the Université de Liège, the Vrije Universtiteit Brussel, the Université Libre de Bruxelles and the Association du Patrimoine Artistique, organises a conference concerning the contribution of dendrochronology to human sciences. It will take place in Brussels on February 10-12 2010.
