Paper, leather and parchment laboratory


The paper, leather and parchment laboratory studies the techniques and the materials of different components of works of arts of paper, leather or parchment archeological excavations.

The laboratory namely centers its research on:
- identifying and studying the different phenomena of protein decay by using a gauge when analyzing amino acids;
- identifying different components of paint layers and/or the ink on manuscripts. The laboratory then analyses the components by using non-destructive methods or microscopic samples;
- identifying fibers and polymer bases;
- identifying tannins;
- identifying fatty acids;
- calculating the pH and identifying anions.

The laboratory, in collaboration with the workshop, is working on a project on the Anjou Bible. More information will be available shortly.
