Service for research on finishings of historic buildings and Wall painting unit
The Service for research on finishings of historic buildings studies and analyses the finishings of façade and interiors presenting a heritage interest. Depending on the materials used, the unit works in collaboration with other workshops in the Institute. The coating, distemper and/or polychromes stratigraphical and topographical exams on ironwork, doorframes, walls and ceilings are particularly performed with help from the laboratories. The research results are just as important for art history and techniques as for the restoration or renovation of the buildings studied. The unit mainly focuses on the Art Nouveau and Art Deco buildings around Brussels.
