Published with the collaboration of the Walloon Committee for Stained Glass associated with the Corpus Vitrearum, this work, which constitutes the thirteenth Dossier of the C.R.M.S.F., is indispensable for anyone dealing with the conservation of stained glass windows, a fragile heritage requiring appropriate care to be determined with the utmost caution.
Written on the basis of exchanges between international experts in stained glass conservation during a round table meeting in Liège, this publication does not propose recipes which, if used indiscriminately, could cause damage. It reviews the four main stages of a stained glass conservation/restoration intervention.
This book is also very practical. Indeed, an essential element of any conservation/restoration intervention is the documentation: model forms are proposed at the end of the volume for the general diagnosis, the preliminary studies, the treatment in the workshop and the final file.
This volume, richly illustrated both for the different types of damage and for the successive stages of conservation/restoration/protection of stained glass windows, is therefore intended not only for heritage specialists and conservators/restorers but also for all those who want to know more about these works, who wish to understand what they have been through and who want them to last.
