"My internship at KIK-IRPA has been one of the most exhilarating experiences in my life. From the beginning, I was given the opportunity to get fully immersed in the institute’s life. KIK-IRPA is a multidisciplinary research center which combines the efforts of a wide team of specialists who work under the same roof. Consequently I have had the rare opportunity not only to evolve as an art historian specializing in fifteenth century Flemish art, but also to get to know the work of other specialties. I was able to see how restoration and conservation works, first in theory, thanks to short presentations given by experts in each field who discussed their working methods at length and later in practice, by organizing visits to the various laboratories and offering us the possibility of familiarizing with the equipment which they employ. Moreover, an important aspect of my internship at KIK-IRPA involved the challenge of working in a truly international environment. Finally, what made my internship at KIKIRPA unique was the warmth I received from my internship supervisors who welcomed me from the beginning and considered me as an equal member of their team since day one. I will always cherish the unique experiences KIKIRPA so willingly offered me."

"Interning at the KIK/IRPA institute was a particularly immersive experience, as it gave me first-hand access to the curatorial, technical and academic aspects of our field. It was a flexible programme that allowed me to tailor my activities toward my academic goals. I received specialty guidance from in-house academics and was allowed to attend their off-site courses and university lectures. My charge was not merely a clerical undertaking, but instead I was an active front-liner in all matters art-historical. I was often invited to attend meetings, field trips and conferences in addition to my library and archival access. KIK/IRPA afforded me work experience in a multilingual environment, which is a good grounding for PhD work as well as further field experience."

Alistair Watkins (University of Edinburgh, 2013)
