One of the most beautiful ensembles in Belgium
This book invites you to enter the world of the stained glass windows of Brussels Cathedral, one of the most beautiful ensembles in Belgium.
It begins by tracing the history of the methods of examination and conservation of stained glass. The authors then develop the history of the cathedral's old and nineteenth-century stained glass windows, before looking at their conservation in the context of the building's latest restoration. The analyses carried out on samples of the stained glass windows are explained and the authors report on the important preparatory work that preceded the actual conservation treatment. The results of the examination of the restored windows are then presented, as well as a questioning of the authenticity of the old windows which, thanks to an impressive iconography, brings out the successive restorations.
