Non-accessible Content

The simplified accessibility audit carried out on 16 April 2026 identified the following non-compliances:

  • Minimum contrast: The contrast between text and its background is not always sufficient to ensure good readability. The report identifies 425 issues across 245 pages.
  • Identification of input field purposes: On some pages, the purpose of input fields is not correctly identified, which may prevent assistive technologies from interpreting them correctly. The report identifies 9 issues across 3 pages.
  • Link purpose in context: Some links do not clearly communicate their destination or purpose within the context of the page. The report identifies 159 issues across 56 pages.
  • Visible focus: The visual indicator showing which element is currently selected during keyboard navigation does not always meet accessibility requirements. In particular, the focus indicator is not visible throughout the carousel.
  • Name, role and value of user interface components: Some interactive elements do not provide all the programmatic information needed for assistive technologies to interpret them correctly. The report identifies 189 issues across 82 pages.

These findings are based on a simplified audit and do not constitute a comprehensive assessment of all pages and accessibility aspects of the website.

Improvement Plan

The Royal Institute for Cultural Heritage is committed to further improving the digital accessibility of its website. Following the simplified accessibility audit carried out by FPS BOSA on 16 April 2026, the following corrective actions are planned.

Priority 1 – Contrast and keyboard navigation

  • Review the contrast between text, backgrounds and interface components, and make the necessary adjustments.
  • Improve the visibility of the keyboard focus indicator on all interactive elements, with particular attention to the carousel.

Priority 2 – Navigation and input fields

  • Review and clarify link text to ensure that link destinations are clearly identifiable.
  • Ensure that the purpose of input fields is correctly identified and can also be recognised by assistive technologies.

Priority 3 – Interactive components

  • Review and correct, where necessary, the programmatic information relating to the name, role and value of interactive elements.
  • After implementing the corrections, carry out further accessibility tests, paying particular attention to keyboard navigation and compatibility with assistive technologies.

The implementation and precise timing of these actions will be determined according to technical feasibility, impact on users and available resources. Particular attention will be paid to the most frequently visited pages and the website’s main functionalities.
