Summer Course for the Study of the Arts in Flanders 2024 – Medieval and Renaissance Sculpture
Jaarlijks brengt de Summer Course een selecte groep van 18 hooggekwalificeerde jonge onderzoekers naar Vlaanderen. Ze krijgen een intensief 11-daags programma aangeboden van lezingen, discussies en bezoeken met betrekking tot een specifieke kunsthistorische periode van de Vlaamse kunst. De achtste editie van de Summer Course for the Study of the Arts in Flanders focust op beeldhouwkunst uit de middeleeuwen en de renaissance. Het programma vindt plaats van 23 juni tot en met 3 juli 2024.
De voertaal is Engels.

Who can apply?
Participants have a master's degree or are PhD student, junior curator or restorer with a focus on medieval and/or renaissance sculpture. The master's degree was earned maximum 10 years ago.
Deadline for applications
10 March 2024, 5 p.m. (Central European Time).
Participation fee
The participation fee of the Summer Course is fixed at €1302 (including VAT) per person. The fee includes the full 11-day programme, 10 overnight hotel stays in a single-occupancy room, all transportation within the programme, all entry tickets, two receptions, five lunches and five dinners. Not included in the participation fee is the transport to and from Belgium.

Grants
- Thanks to the generous support of the Samuel H. Kress Foundation's History of Art Grants Program two US students and citizens are offered a grant that will fully cover the programme fee and round trip flights between Belgium and the US.
- The organizers of the Summer Course have made available two grants as well. The recipients of the grant will pay a reduced participation fee of €651 (including VAT) instead of the regular fee.
In addition to a resume, a letter of motivation and a letter of recommendation, required for general applications, candidates for financial aid are also asked to send a statement explaining their financial need.
